LATEST UPDATES:
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH DAD!
Back to School with Dad is a unique movement whereby it encourages fathers to play a prominent role in their children’s lives. At Casuarina Primary School, we managed to capture these precious moments on camera. It was heartening to see so many fathers taking the time to be with their children on the first morning of January 3. The presence of both parents means a lot to the children, especially on the first day of school.
PSLE 2011
We would like to congratulate our 2011 P6 cohort for their very good performance in the PSLE. The school has shown improvements over last year particularly in English and Mother Tongue Languages. The following pupils have done particularly well in the PSLE. Well done!

CCA & ACTIVE LEARNING @CAPS
The school will continue to hold CCA within curriculum time for the P3 to P6 pupils every Friday, from 7.30 to 9am. This initiative is to provide opportunities for every pupil to participate in CCA, which can develop a range of life-skills in them, promote leadership, build character and inculcate values. We also hope to find a better balance between the different learning domains; between knowledge, skills and inculcating values in our school curriculum. The modular Active Learning @CAPS for P1 and P2 pupils will continue to be held on Fridays from 7.30 to 9am. We look forward to your kind support for the school’s CCA and Active Learning@CAPS Programme.
CRANES AND PALMS
CRANES, specially designed for the P1 and P2 pupils integrates three subject areas; CReative Art, Social Studies incorporating NE, and Science. It will be subsumed in the Social Studies period for a few weeks in a term. PALMS implemented for all levels, is an integration of health education, character education and physical health based on the five domains: Physical, Affective, Leadership, Moral and Social in line with the Socio-emotional Learning as well as the National Education framework. PALMS lessons also provide a platform for teacher – pupil discussions on character and holistic health issues. It will be carried out during certain FTGP (Form Teacher Guidance Period) for the P3 to P6 pupils.
Through CRANES and PALMS, we hope to broaden the perspectives of our pupils, in particular to holistic health and values education. We also hope to make the learning of non-examinable subjects more integrated, engaging and meaningful for them.

These lessons crafted to match the themes of the syllabus, will continue this year, in line with the school’s focus on Effective Communication and ensuring more engaged learning by the pupils.
SERVICE LEARNING TRIP TO TANJUNG PINANG, BINTAN
35 selected pupils participated in the annual pupil leaders’ service learning trip to Bintan, from 9 to 11 Nov 2011. CELEBRATING LEARNING AND SUCCESS

Pupils work in teams to audit their school and submit results together with a report on their environmental efforts, including plans for improvements. The aim of the programme, which is run biennially, is to encourage schools to adopt a holistic approach as well as to seek continuous improvement in environmental management. We are proud to announce that Casuarina Primary School has been awarded the Green Audit Award – from Orchid in previous years to the Lotus Award for the year 2010/2011. ENGLISH LANGUAGE (EL) FORTNIGHT OF CELEBRATIONS
The EL Fortnight of Celebrations was held over two weeks in July 2011 in line with the school’s focus on Effective Communication and ensuring more engaged learning. As part of the celebrations, pupils put up performances and conducted presentations. In addition, a range of activities aimed at developing a deeper appreciation of the languages in pupils was organized.
The P1 pupils put up a series of wonderful performances during the ‘Little STARZ’ show on 22 July. The ‘Little STARZ’ show aims to provide our pupils with the platform to showcase their speech and drama skills in front of invited guests, their very own parents and family members. To tie in with the EL STELLAR curriculum, each class acted out stories adapted from the Big Books used in Semester One. Pupils were trained personally by their respective form teachers and each was given a role to play. Overall, the performance received positive feedback from both parents and pupils.
The P2 pupils too put up performances onstage ('Kidz Theatre') on 15 July. Pupils had the opportunity to showcase their talents and the oratorical skills they had learnt as well as enjoy watching their peers’ performances during the poetry recitation based on poems from ‘Mother Goose’. The P4 pupils put up enthralling Readers’ Theatre performances onstage and in the library, with some groups penning their very own scripts. Other levels marked the fortnight of celebrations by conducting Integrated Project Work (IPW) presentations, debates and class-based activities aimed at honing their public speaking skills.

HOMECOMING @CAPS CARNIVAL
.jpg.2.jpg)
Our school held our carnival, Homecoming@CAPS 2011 on 2 July 2011, Saturday at our school premises. The objectives of the carnival:
- To celebrate the school's 10th Anniversay
- To celebrate Racial Harmony Day
- To provide opportunity for all to bond and have fun as members of the Casuarinian family
- To raise funds to set up our school's very own i-lab@CAPS
Numerous events and activities such as Food Paradise, Games Wonderland, Art Attack, ‘Pasar’ Casuarina, Annual Jumble Sale, made the day a fun and exciting one for the entire family. It was a successful event and we would like to thank all who have contributed to the carnival: our pupils, staff (teaching, non-teaching and support staff), ex-pupils, ex-staff, SAC members, parents in particular our Parent Volunteers and PSG members, CCA instructors and coaches, staff family members, and even our contract cleaners, security guards and canteen vendors who lent their support in one way or another. It is not about how much money we managed to raise, but more importantly the team spirit and bonding as we planned and carried this out together as a school. The carnival has certainly lived up to its name Homecoming@CAPS with practically all stakeholders coming together in true spirit for a worthy cause.
